By sampradāya-saṁrakṣaka Śrī Śyām Dās Babajī Mahārāja
About the absolute authenticity of Gauḍīya Goṣṭhī Pati Śrī Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda Paramahaṁsa Jagad Guru
Gauḍīya Goṣṭhī Pati Śrī Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Paramahaṁsa Jagad Guru said that— “guru-Vaiṣṇava-Bhagavan can reserve the right of not being exposed to our material sense organ and mind.”
“He utkale puruṣottamāt” … the indication found in Padma Purāṇa already scientifically proved that śuddha bhakti gauḍīya-dhāra will get propagated from Śrī Puruṣottama-dhāma all around the world. Śrī Gaurāṅga Deva appeared at Śrīdhāma Māyāpur Nadia and ultimately gone to Puruṣottama-dhāma to preach viśuddha gauḍīya-vaiṣṇava bhakti-dhāra very secretly by the help of his bhajan mudrā (gesture). The evidence given below from Śrī Caitanya-āṣṭakam—
sadopāsyaḥ śrīmān dhṛta-manuja-kāyaiḥ praṇayitāṁvahadbhir gīr-vāṇair giriśa-parameṣṭhi-prabhṛtibhiḥsva-bhaktebhyaḥ śuddhāṁ nija-bhajana-mudrām upadiśansa caitanyaḥ kiṁ me punar api dṛśor yāsyati padam
(Śrī Caitanya-āṣṭakam Verse 1)
Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu is always the most worshipable Deity of those demigods, including Lord Śiva and Lord Brahmā, who came in the garb of ordinary men bearing love for Him. He instructs His own pure devotional service to His own devotees. Will He again become visible before the path of my eyes?
But just the opposite way of what Śrīman Mahāprabhu done The Prabhupāda appeared at Śrī Puruṣottama dhāma and gone to Śrīdhāma Māyāpur Nadia to start his Caitanya Mission (or Śrī Gauḍīya Mission) from there, as if that was a pre-planned program of the Supreme Lord. Also how he appeared at Śrī Puruṣottama dhāma with natural yajña upavit (sacred thread) which was already fixed up on his body, really this was one kind of perplexing incident—which was surely one kind of very special indication by Śrī Jagannātha Deva, especially when the big garland (padma-mālā) of Jagannātha Deva fell down on the body of the baby from His neck when he was taken by mother Bhagavati Devi near the deity of Jagannātha on the chariot at the time of Jagannātha-ratha-yātrā festival, because the chariot (ratha) was stand still for some days at the gate of the house, where Śrīla Saccidananda Bhaktivinod Ṭhākura used to stay during his government service period as district magistrate of Puri district. Surely that was a miracle. As per the earnest prayer of Śrīla Saccidananda Bhaktivinod Ṭhākura on to the Lotus feet of Śrī Jagannātha Deva His svarūpa-śakti Bimala Devi—Her kṛpā came down in the form of divya śiśu (baby) Bimala Prasad Sarasvatī. But still those sahajiyā groups are so blind that they cannot find any specialty with him. Also while doing śata-koṭi nama yajña at Brajapattan Śrīdhāma Māyāpur—Śrī Gaurāṅga Deva Himself appeared in front of him as pañca-tattva together with Gauḍīya guru-varga to give him some special instructions to go for absolute preaching sevā. Now what else you need to believe him about his absolute authenticity! If you can focus on him – his divya līlā – I mean each and every of his acharan, then all your long-cherished doubts and suspicions can get vanished, of course if there is no aparādha inside your heart. What to speak more, only his divya darśana can solve all problems (just like the following verse— “gańgāra paraśa hoile paścate pāvan darśane pavitra koro-ei tomāra guṇ.” After bathing in the waters of the sacred Ganges many times, one becomes purified, but just by the sight of you, the fallen souls are purified). This is your great power then what to speak about his lion like firing speeches and writings. He said that— “If the whole world going to leave me, even those who have come to me to accept me as their preceptor, if they all going to leave me one by one, but still I will not stop speaking about that Absolute Truth intact way – fearlessly by standing under the umbrella like the shed of the Lotus Feet of my paramahaṁsa Guru-padapadma without deviating at all". He further said that— “To seek the satisfaction of public (to collect lābha, pūjā, pratiṣṭhā) is called abhakti (non- devotional activity) and to seek the complete satisfaction of the Supreme Lord is called bhakti.” After all he was appointed as the overall in charge or authority of the whole Sarasvat Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava sampradāya by the Supreme Lord Himself and Śrīla Saccidananda Bhaktivinod Ṭhākura—who before leaving this material world entrusted him with the following responsible sevās like
1., To establish the divine superiority and dignity of those Vaiṣṇavas over those smārta brāhmaṇas to prove their natural Brahminism. Midnapur Baligai assembly is the evidence of that fact – which was presided over by maharṣi Śrī Visvambarananda Deva Gosvāmī the great ācārya in the line of Shyamananda parivāra.
2., To establish and implement the divine varṇāśrama dharma (daiva varṇāśrama dharma) in Vaiṣṇava jagat to protect and preserve the divine dignity of guru-Vaiṣṇava.
3., To arrange Śrī Dham parikramā for the absolute maṅgala of all.
4., To take some concrete steps for the divine development of Śrī Dham.
Below you can find some excerpts from the book “Śrīla Sarasvatī Ṭhākura” about Śrīla Prabhupāda written by his first sannyāsa disciple—Tridandibhiksu Śrīmad Bhakti Pradip Tirtha Gosvāmī Mahārāj—
SARASVATĪ ṬHĀKURA AS THE REAL GUIDE OF THE SEEKERS OF TRUTH
The pseudo-preceptors are those who are out of touch with the Source of real enlightenment. But they do not know that they are unfit to be bearers of enlightenment to the people of this world. They have a knack of indulging in inconclusive discourses for its own sake. Such performances have been the cause of the religious discords and animosities of this world. Śrīla Prabhupāda has pointed out this root cause of the spiritual difficulties of the world by his exhaustive Expositions of the Nature and Operations of the Enlightening power of the divine logos. This Truth constitutes the basic principle of the śāstric or śrauta method. It is the Vedic method or the method of being endowed with True Knowledge. All else is false knowledge which is more dangerous than downright ignorance. And it is for this reason that a very great responsibility rests upon all persons who profess to seek for true spiritual enlightenment but are unprepared to admit their greater responsibility of seeking the causeless Mercy of the Divine Preceptor in the shape of making the acquaintance of the bona fide Spiritual Preceptor as He really is. Śrīla Prabhupāda cannot be known as he is by any person who is not specially favored by the Supreme Lord Sri Kṛṣṇa Caitanya identical with the divine logos as vācaka. Therefore, it is befitting for all to seek for real spiritual enlightenment, whether such persons belong to Asia, Africa, Europe or America, and to consider the imperative necessity of admitting the Initiative of the Absolute to make Himself known through the Medium of the power of Exposition of Himself in His Form of the divine logos as vācaka.
SARASVATĪ ṬHĀKURA AS THE TRUE EXPONENT OF TRANSCENDENTAL SOUND
Externally the appearance of the divine logos as vācaka has complete similarity with the method of argumentative discourses regarding the Absolute that are indulged in by the average rationalistic thinkers and philosophers. But, as a matter of fact, the two are categorically distinct and opposed. Rationalistic discourses regarding the Absolute are bound to prove inconclusive and productive of discordant views and opinions. Such discourses are also bound to be barren by reason of their seeking to be consciously independent of the sole dominating initiative of the Absolute, who alone can acquaint us with His Own true nature. Therefore, there is nothing surprising about the opposite result to enlightenment that is produced by the wranglings of the rationalistic philosophers. The method enunciated by Śrīla Prabhupāda does not shut out the process of argumentative discourse but insists on validating the process by seeking the necessary subordinate connection with the Absolute as teacher. The Absolute Sound or discourses from the lips of the divine teacher does not hamper our individual initiative in the matter of argumentative discourse. On the contrary, by the adoption of the method of listening submissively to the discourses from the lips of the divine teachers our own argumentative initiative is enabled to get a real footing in the plane of the abiding Truth and to function in a constructive and positive manner. By seeking inspiration from the data of sense-experience supplied by the deluding aspect of the power of the logos we are condemned to a performance for the multiplication of errors and absurdities. The initiative of the Absolute logos is always there. It is only when our own argumentative nature seeks to be enlightened by such initiative that we are enabled to know and discourse about the Truth. This is in conformity with the requirements of the theistic position.
SARASVATĪ ṬHĀKURA AS THE MANIFESTATION OF ŚRĪ CAITANYA VĀṆĪ
His Divine Grace Śrīla Prabhupāda Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvati Gosvāmī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda was the living manifestation of Śrī Caitanya vāṇī, the gospel of Absolute Truth, That, when He begins to enter into our listening ears, dispels the gloom of age-long avidya (nescience) from our mind and makes it the eternal power of the juvenile pastimes of the spiritual despot of Brindaban. Every logos emanating from His divine lips is a source of perennial enthusiasm and represents a spiritual kaleidoscope which, when seen through our unconditioned soul’s eye, produces, at every turn, a panorama of endless variety of beautiful holy maids harmoniously dancing in beautiful circles round the central figure of all-love, beauty and truth. His transcendental discourses drop manna and serve as a panacea for all world-diseases in the form of the threefold miseries with which the wise-acres of the world are specially afflicted. We have been terribly suffering from the ulcerous diseases of Elevationism and Salvationism, the septic co effects of our empiric knowledge. But his sharp double-edged lancet of śāstric reasonings, like successful surgical operation, while cutting to the quick, is bitter and painful at the outset, but wholesome, soothing and blissful in the long run.
It has already been said that His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvatī Prabhupāda is the same as the power of Śrī Caitanya vāṇī identified with the Absolute Person as the divine logos. This is the clue to the distinctive Personality of Śrīla Prabhupāda. The power of the divine logos is the only Medium for the fullest manifestation of the significance of divine logos and we find this function underlying all the utterances and writings and activities of Śrīla Prabhupāda. The divine logos has the co-ordinate eternal Forms of ‘Vachya' and ‘vācaka.' As ‘vachya’ He is Śrī Kṛṣṇa. As ‘vācaka’ He is Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya, Śrīla Prabhupāda displays the activity of the power of the divine logos as ‘vācaka,’ i. e. „ as the Exposition of Himself.
Śrīla Prabhupāda teaches the following principles in regard to the nature of the divine logos as vācaka - divine logos is the divine transcendental word manifesting Himself in the Form of His Own Exposition through the medium of the divine spiritual preceptor. The logos as vācaka entering the submissive listening ear of the soul of the disciple teaches him that He is identical with the logos as the vachya. The subject of teaching is identical with the teaching and the teacher. In other words, Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya is the same as Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
The Medium through Whom the divine logos as vācaka makes His Appearance in this world is the power of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya and the servitors elected for this purpose by the power of the divine logos as vācaka. There can be no other medium. Śrīla Prabhupāda is the distinctive potency of self-exposition of the divine power, or in this sense, the other-self of the divine power, because the divine power is Herself One.
The revelations take place originally through the medium of the divine teachers of the world in the form of the logos as vācaka manifesting Himself on the lips of those teachers by His own power of explaining and teaching Himself. The preceptors are merely the mediums of the divine logos served by His own power. The divine logos never appears dissociated from His power of Self-exposition. Śrīla Prabhupāda is the associated counter - whole Aspect of the power of self-exposition of the divine logos. The appearance of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya in this world can alone dispel all doubts regarding the method and purpose of the quest of the Absolute from all minds of this ultra-rationalistic age. The process by which such doubts are solved is by the method of acceptance of the transcendental epistemology involving the unconditional recognition of the power of self-exposition of the divine logos as the vācaka.
Also Acharya Kesari Śrīla Bhakti Pragyan Kesava Gosvāmī Mahārāj has written that— “All of those (those prakṛta-sahajiyās) have been meticulously itemized and exposed by Śrīla Bhaktivinode Ṭhākura in the 19th century and after him Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda who like a lion fearlessly and determinedly challenged and intrepidly defeated these imposters wherever they raised their fallen heads. Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Ṭhākura Śrīla Prabhupāda established 64 temples, one for each of the 64 limbs of devotional service. He initiated over 60,000 Vaiṣṇava devotees. Not only did he preach Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavism but he preached sanātana dharma and glorified the authenticity of Vedanta. By śāstra verification he destroyed the illusory views of Māyāvadis (or prakṛta-sahajiyās etc.) with all its accompanying evils and vices. He did this to dispel the darkness of nescience and conclusively established that the Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa is the basis of all creation the ultimate goal of all endeavors and devotional service to Him is the natural, constitutional position of every human being and the panacea of human existence.
Even to the spiritually pagan western countries where epicureanism is rampant and the ultimate goal of life is accumulation, Śrīla Prabhupāda sent his disciples to faithfully spread the Holy Name of Kṛṣṇa and the saṅkīrtana mission of Śrī Caitanya Māhaprabhu, who Himself omnisciently predicted 400 years ago as quoted below by Vrindavan das Ṭhākura in his Śrī Caitanya Bhāgavat below:
pṛthivīte āche yata nagarādi-grāmasarvatra pracāra haibe mora nāma
In as many towns and cities as there are everywhere on this earth My Holy Name will be preached.
Gaura Hari Hari Bol
To be continued gradually …
