All glories to Śrī Śrī Guru Gaurāṅga
The reason for why Śrīla Bābā Mahārāj like to pass away any topic of any modern Ācārya very carefully to avoid any offence unto their lotus feet
Date 04.12.2025
From Śrīmad Bhāgavatam we can find the following śloka—
para-svabhāva-karmāṇi
na praśaṁsen na garhayet
viśvam ekātmakaṁ paśyan
prakṛtyā puruṣeṇa ca (ŚB 11.28.1)
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: One should neither praise nor criticize the conditioned nature and activities of other persons. Rather, one should see this world as simply the manifestation developed by the combination of material nature and the enjoying souls, all based on one and the same Absolute Truth.
para-svabhāva-karmāṇi
yaḥ praśaṁsati nindati
sa āśu bhraśyate svārthād
asaty abhiniveśataḥ (ŚB 11.28.2)
Whoever indulges in praising or criticizing the qualities and behaviour of others will quickly become deviated from his own absolute self-interest by his entanglement in illusory dualities.
Gauḍīya Goṣṭhi Pati Śrī Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Ṭhākur Prabhupāda Paramahaṁsa Jagad Guru used to say that— “Do not appreciate or criticise the nature or behaviour of others.”
According to the above instruction of The Prabhupāda he wanted to say that— “Do not appreciate or criticise the nature or behaviour of others in this material creation which is manifested by the joint collaboration of prakṛti and puruṣa.”
According to previous karma–phala when any jīvātmā entering into a material body (purī) then the word puruṣa is applicable, and also due to false ego (pauruṣa) — ‘doership mood’ — this word puruṣa is applicable. A pure Bhāgavat bhakta is always beyond māyā, so as per scriptural instruction their glorification can help us to go beyond māyā to do Hari–bhajan. Except cetana ātmā all are prakṛti, even all our body, mind, intellect, etc. From Śrīmad Bhagavad Gītā we know the following śloka where Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa has already confirmed this point—
bhūmir āpo ’nalo vāyuḥ
khaṁ mano buddhir eva ca
ahaṅkāra itīyaṁ me
bhinnā prakṛtir aṣṭadhā (Bg. 7.4)
Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego – all together these eight constitute My separated material energies.
Actually Śrīla Bābā Mahārāj feeling confusion regarding siddhānta vichārs of those modern ācāryas, that is why to avoid committing any offence he like to pass away their topics. If you can kindly prove that those confusing siddhānta vichārs are all coming from The Prabhupāda or Śrīla Saccidananda Bhaktivinod Ṭhākur, maybe then he can feel comfortable to discuss their topics. Could you please help Śrīla Bābā Mahārāj to reconcile those following siddhāntas of those modern ācāryas with The Prabhupāda—
1. The first confusion
By the name of “Baladeva–tattva” (https://www.bvmlu.org/contemporary/AM_bt.html) one article was published in the year of 2003, 12 Aug., where we find some strange siddhānta-vicār about Śrī-Baladeva–rasa. Strange in the sense that never none of our Sarasvata Gauḍīya guru-varga said such siddhānta-vicār.
At the end of this article we can find the following statement — After Śrīpāda Āraṇya Mahārāja spoke, Śrīla Gurudeva (Śrīla Bhaktivedānta Nārāyaṇa Mahārāja) expressed his great appreciation of how well these subtle tattvas were so clearly explained. Śrīla Gurudeva said that he wanted this told everywhere so that all the devotees could know these tattvas.
Below you can find an article written by Śrīla Bābā Mahārāj regarding that article which was published in the year 2003.

2. The second confusion
Gauḍīya Goṣṭhī Pati Śrī Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda Paramahaṁsa Jagad Guru said that— “I may be leaving this world, but at least there is one man who remains behind who can represent my siddhānta, and that man is Śrīdhara Mahārāj. He is carrying the conception of Śrīla Saccidānanda Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura.”
In regard to this statement given by The Prabhupāda about Śrīla Bhakti Rakṣaka Śrīdhar Deva Gosvāmī Mahārāj, we are really in great confusion about the remark passed by Śrīla Nārāyaṇa Mahārāj about him— "If someone is criticizing one's Gurudeva and the disciple remains quiet, then he is not more than an impotent eunuch. When our Gurudeva started Ratha–yātrā in Navadvīpa, no one criticized him. When he left this world, however, a very highly advanced devotee spoke something against Ratha–yātrā in Navadvīpa. The day I heard it I could not sleep at night. I was restless and so much agitated. Soon after that I wrote an article in our magazine, and that article created chaos, havoc and very great agitation on the other side. Hence there was a fight, and that fight lasted for the entire year. If we do not do these things, we are not doing mano-bhīṣṭa–seva, service to the inner heart's desire of Śrī Gurudeva. We should establish our Gurudeva’s principles and, when any opposition comes, we should defeat it." [Harikathā, 2000 August 15]
Here is the link where you can find the whole article from where we took this quotation by Śrīla Nārāyaṇa Mahārāj—https://gosai.com/writings/ratha-yatra-in-navadvipa
Especially when he (Bhakti Raksak Śrīdhar Dev Gosvāmī Mahārāj) was declared as the number one Gauḍīya pracāraka (preacher) by Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Gosvāmī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda Paramahaṁsa Jagad Guru, then how and why such very dirty comment by Srila Narayan Maharaj (like he is no more than a fish seller, or coal merchant or he is a passive personality in preaching field, etc.) about the great ācārya Śrīla Bhakti Raksak Śrīdhar Dev Gosvāmī Mahārāj can arise, whereas he himself also already declared Śrīla Bhakti Raksak Śrīdhar Dev Gosvāmī Mahārāj as a great exalted devotee?
Below you can find an article written by Śrīla Bābā Mahārāj regarding this most sensitive issue as the most perfect solution without disturbing both the sides. Please follow the link below—
3. The third confusion
Another siddhānta-vicār regarding Kalki-avatāra in this Kali is really very confusing—The quotation below is from Svāmī B. G. Naraśiṁgha Mahārāj—…………….But the ISKCON section of Vaiṣṇavas are not alone, as certain Indian-born, second-generation disciples of Bhaktisiddhānta [posing as Gauḍīya Maṭha] are also championing the misconceptions of Kānupriyā Gosvāmī by preaching that there will be no Kalki-avatāra in this Kali-yuga. One such ācārya (Śrīla Nārāyaṇa Mahārāj) — his comment quoted herewith, which is just like the same comment by Śrīla Svāmī Mahārāj (ISKCON) on this topic:
Śrīla Nārāyaṇa Mahārāja mentioned many times that in this age of Kali, Kalki-avatāra will not come… Not in this Kali-yuga. He won’t come. But if he comes; no harm. He will be raising his arms and chanting, “Haribol, Haribol” in Mahāprabhu’s saṅkīrtana movement.

Below you can find an article on this topic written by Śrīla Bābā Mahārāj to counter balance the hot exchange on this most sensitive issue—for your kind consideration, this is given below. Please follow the link—
4. The fourth confusion
Even though all sincere Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavas under the strict guidance of Śrīla Saccidānanda Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura and The Prabhupāda wanted to give warning to us again and again on this subject matter to become very careful, but still we are failure to follow their strict guidance. Even the next generation, I mean all our Guruvarga like Śrīla Bhakti Rakṣaka Śrīdhara Deva Gosvāmī Mahārāj, Śrīla Bhakti Pramoda Purī Gosvāmī Mahārāj, Śrīla Bhakti Pragñāna Keśava Gosvāmī Mahārāj, Śrīla Sadananda Svāmī Mahārāj, etc. etc. — all of those sincere disciples (parṣadas) — they also repeatedly wanted to check us from fall down (I mean from fearful sahajiyā–ism). Actually as per their siddhānta-vicār without first overcoming our anarthas we cannot have entry into rasa–tattva, and that these topics should be strictly prohibited to speak openly to everybody regardless of what adhikāra they actually have.
Here below given some samples in favour of the above siddhānta-vicār for your kind consideration—
Is shajiyaism harmful for normal devotees?
(1) Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura writes in Prema Pradipa Tenth Ray:
“If I explain this topic (Rādhā Kṛṣṇa’s Pastimes) in the assembly, it could be harmful for the unqualified devotees. Higher truths cannot be attained unless one is situated on a higher platform. Just as higher knowledge gradually arises in all scientific literature, likewise, confidential truths are attained in devotional literatures by proper qualification.”
This is only reserved for highly qualified devotees
(2) Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Shri Chaitanya- Śikśāmṛta -Chapter 3. Part 2:
“One should not discuss topics of rasa (Rādhā Kṛṣṇa’s Pastimes) with anyone except highly qualified persons on the same level of spiritual advancement.”
Keep Rādhā in Great Reverence above our head. Don’t rush towards that position.
(3) Śrīla BR Sridhar Dev Gosvami Maharaja writes: “Our Guru Maharaja, Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Goswāmi Prabhūpāda, asked that we keep Radharani in great reverence, ‘On your head, over your head-don’t be bold enough to approach directly: pujala rāga-patha gaurava bhange. Try to keep Her and Her group at a respectful distance, above your head. Don’t rush towards that position. It is not that cheap.’ The whole tenor of Guru Maharaja’s life was such: ‘That is high, very high, and from below we are to honor that.’ We must establish this conception, the proper regard for that higher lila, throughout the entire world: ‘That is too high.’
One who teaches the sādhana of Rasa to unqualified is an imposter
(4) Srila Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, Shri Chaitanya Śikśāmṛta, Chapter 7, Part 1:
“Those who have attained the level of prema and are completely detached from worldly pleasure are qualified for rasa. Those who have not attained pure rati and full sense control make futile attempts to become qualified for rasa by practicing rasa. That taste which arises naturally in a person on the level of prema is called rasa. The discussion of rasa is only a description of how the various elements combine in the different rasas; it is not a part of sādhana. Therefore, if anyone says that he will teach you the sadhana of rasa, he is an impostor or a fool.”
An unqualified person become more degraded by listening to higher topics
(5) Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Shri Chaitanya Śikśāmṛta, Chapter 6, Part 5:
“Not everyone is qualified to read the daily pastimes of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa. It is esoteric knowledge of great wonder which must be kept secret. One should not let those who are not qualified hear these topics. As long as the soul has not attained greed for the spiritual world on the path of raga, the description of these pastimes must be kept hidden from him. As long as the person has no realization of the pure spiritual nature of the transcendental Name, form, qualities and pastimes of Kṛṣṇa, he has no qualification for hearing these pastimes. Hearing these pastimes, the unqualified person will simply meditate on material relationships of male and female, under the influence of maya, and by this he will become degraded. The reader, with great care should attain initiation into the srngara-rasa like Narada, and then he can enter the pastimes.”
Unqualified people commit offenses by dabbling in higher topics
(6) Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Shri Chaitanya Śikśāmṛta, Chapter 7, Part 7:
“These topics are more elaborately described in Ujjvala-nilamani and Jaiva Dharma. By consulting those books the qualified person can realize their nature. For fear of offense by unqualified persons nothing more will be said here.”
Unqualified people become sahajiyas even when they appreciate higher topics of Rasa
(7) Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Shri Chaitanya Śikśāmṛta, Chapter 7, Part 7:
“People who have strong attraction for gross material pleasure and cannot understand these topics should not read, think of, or discuss these topics of rasa, because they will think that these are all material activities and criticize them. If they do appreciate them at all, they will become degraded as sahajiyas. Keep Madhura Rasa Hidden from General People.”
It is not so easy to find a person qualified for it
(8) Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Jaiva Dharma, Chapter 30:
“A person who is not renounced in this way is not qualified to understand the spiritual rasas. Therefore the people in general are not qualified to understand the madhura-rasa. Madhura-rasa is very difficult to understand. It is not easy to find a person qualified to understand it. This rasa is very confidential. Therefore it is appropriate to keep it hidden from general view.”
Singing Rādhā Kṛṣṇa’s pastimes in public will bring inauspiciousness to this world
(9) In his lecture, Suddha o Viddha Bhaktī, Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvati Ṭhākura Prabhupada has commented:
“The songs of Rai-Kanu’s (Radha Krishna) dealings with Each Other (rasa) is the greatest secret of all secrets. If those who are lascivious as ourselves go to sing or describe them in markets and bazaars, ghatas, roads and fields to each and everybody, won’t it bring nothing to the world but unwanted rubbish? Whatever worship we boast of while our perception of external world is still strong as anything, is useless. Have I acquired a drop of at least anuraga for Bhagavan, genuine desire to give pleasure to His senses?’ – this question we should ask our inner self at least once and without deceit, then everything will become clear. By that it is not intended to say that we are to give up bhajana-kriya for good. It is intended to say that one should follow the gradual path of progress according to one’s adhikara (qualification)”
(Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada, Suddha o Viddha Bhakti, April 20, 1926)
(10) Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada, from an article in The Gaudiya, 1934:
“Those who have chanted hari-nama (64 rounds daily) for fifteen or twenty years should know such things (Rādhā Kṛṣṇa’s elevated pastimes). The beginners need not hear these topics or they will misunderstand. These topics are for certain audiences, not for all. Also, it is said, apana bhajana-katha, na kahibe jatha-jatha, ‘One should not reveal one’s bhajana to others. If we disregard this instruction of our previous acaryas then there may be a permanent fall from the realm of devotional service.”
(11) Śrīla Bhaktī Pramoda Puri Goswāmi Maharaj quotes Srila Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvati Ṭhākura in this regard:
“Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada explained that only after one’s mind and intelligence are purified by the chanting of the Holy Names can hear about Kṛṣṇa’s form, qualities, associates, and finally, pastimes. One who has not yet reached the stage of ruchi, or taste for devotional service, may prematurely go to a kapat guru to take initiation and instruction in raganuga-bhakti, without first making an effort to chant the Holy Name offenselessly. Such a person may make a pretense of relishing Kṛṣṇa’s lila while still affected by materialistic contamination, but such an attempt will not succeed in bringing him love for the divine couple and service for Them in the spiritual abode.”
(Art of Sadhana, Chapter 14.)
Now we just want to draw your attention at the following statements by Śrīla Bhaktivedānta Nārāyaṇa Mahārāja which are really confusing for us—
“If this kind of greed arises in a person – even if he is very lusty and has many material desires and seems like a very wretched, stupid and nonsense person – he is qualified to receive raganuga-bhakti.” Srila Narayana Maharaja – Darsana of August, 1992
[Question:] “Some people say one has to be free from anarthas for this type of greed to come.
[Srila Narayana Maharaja:] This is apa-siddhanta. This is not written anywhere in Sri Caitanya-caritamrta or in the books of Srila Rupa Gosvami and Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura. A person may be more wretched than Bilvamangala, Jagai and Madhai and others. First bhakti will come, and then all offences will disappear. These are the rules and regulations of bhakti. It is not correct to think that we have to give up these anarthas before bhakti manifests. Bhakti can come at any stage.” Srila Narayana Maharaja – Darsana of August, 1992
Below you can find many more articles written by our Sarasvata Gauḍīya Guruvarga regarding this most important issue of rasa–tattva. Please follow the links below—
The Prabhupāda used to say that – “Without hundredth percent śaraṇāgati one cannot speak about that absolute truth openly.” Also he used to say that — “Actual tṛṇād api means to become completely free of pratiṣṭhā-āśā (lābha-pūjā-pratiṣṭhā).” I mean then and only then one can speak fearlessly about that absolute truth. All alone this has been the nature of Śrīla Bābā Mahārāj in the field of Gauḍīya vāṇī–sevā (be it in the form of speech or writing), so naturally he can never enjoy any popularity. Of course from heart he also like to avoid any kind of lābha-pūjā-pratiṣṭhā what so ever.
Except our Gauḍīya Guruvarga, all modern (in the sense they all adopted new new methods) ācāryas never wanted to keep any connection with Śrīla Bābā Mahārāj, because of his complete niṣkiñcana condition (penniless condition). This is known to all. Any of his prayer or suggestion or request was never giving any importance or honour or priority by them, so naturally he was bound to go alone with Śrīla Prabhupāda and Śrī Gurudeva.
He took life risk all the way to protest against ISKCON and other sahajiyā societies for the protection and preservation of the divine dignity of our Gauḍīya Guruvarga and Śrī Gauḍīya Maṭh, because they always wanted to abuse our Gauḍīya Guruvarga and Gauḍīya Maṭh. All his (Śrīla Bābā Mahārāj) craving request in this regard unto the lotus feet of those big big ācāryas were always kicked out without any consideration, because they only wanted to insure (or protect) their own lābha-pūjā-pratiṣṭhā, otherwise they fear to lose everything. That is the main reason for why he feel afraid to discuss anything about them.
Also as per the direct order of Paramahaṁsa Gurupādapadma Jagad–Guru Śrī Śrīla Bhakti Pramode Purī Gosvāmī Mahārāj he is bound to follow The Prabhupāda strictly, which is itself absolutely complete. He never expect countless people to came in front of him, rather this has been the divine strategy of Śrīla Bābā Mahārāj’s preaching procedure, that some selected sincere seekers of the Absolute truth can come to him to attend him.
He always facing countless opposition or criticism etc. but still his rigidity cannot allow him to make any compromise with sahajiyās or māyāvādīs or karmīs or wayward non–devotees etc. That is the only reason for why he want to pass away any of their topics.
He wanted to beg for pardon for that to all of us in the following way — “Do not become angry with me, please try to realize my position as a neutral personality, it is not possible for me to follow all ācāryas at a time, or if I like to make some hodgepodge, reconciliation, then I can get displaced from the track shown by The Prabhupāda. So I think if I am going to speak about The Prabhupāda then surely this can cover the teachings of your Gurudeva. Your Gurudeva’s instruction or message must be there. If not so, then surely there must be some disparity, please try to look into this matter with neutral mood, before becoming angry with me, because we are less interested to follow any particular ‘ism’, rather this is the most sensitive question of the survival of the real self. Also what it concern to you if a fallen tiny soul like me not glorifying your Gurudeva, his Gurudeva, her Gurudeva, etc. What will go or come in it that I cannot understand. Please excuse me for that if you can.
Thanks a lot
Truly yours in the service of Guru-Gaurāṅga and Go-Mātā.
All the honest and sincere followers of The Prabhupāda—
All the members of Śrī Bhaktisiddhānta Vāṇī Sevā Trust.
